Fair
Daddy said that arguments just cost
one,
And in his wretched life he never lost
one.
That's the truth. I doubt there is a
hell,
And probably he's doing very well.
Such is life. A situation where
Everything is real, and nothing's fair.

Graveyard
At 3 a.m. I came to Denny's
dead
For coffee that would
resurrect my head
From sleep. And for an hour
had to ask
For every refill. Work is
such a task!
She seemed the type who
calls as person “dude”.
And every time I asked her,
she was rude.
She brought me refills like
I was a pest,
And then went back to visit
with the rest.
Had I been sarcastic with
the lout,
She'd have raised a fuss and
thrown me out!

Cryptic
To let you in my house, affect my
feelings -
No one's there except the ghosts and
me.
By the gate in surreptitious dealings,
I can hear the ocean and the sea.
Does this make sense in any way at
all?
Perhaps another rise before the fall,
Perhaps another rise before the fall,
The final fall,
And in the cemetery nothing stirs.
Nothing in the world but god endures.

Mercedes & Debbie
I'm a crazy snotty little
smart-ass,
But the people whom I like
are all sincere
And warm. That's what
attracted me to George.
I should make an effort to
be nice,
Earnest and refined. I'd
be a bore
To everyone, and die of
boredom too.
I often tease the people
that I like.
They take it with a grace
befitting gods.
The people that I like are
very poor,
As I am too. Republicans
despise
The indigent, the crippled
and the old.
So we must do without
Republicans.

Love
Keats was wrong. Love surpasses
beauty.
The old are loved – but never for
their wisdom -
For their warmth – and because
they're known.
Propinquity and kindness. That is
love.
Kittens with their eyes closed learn
more truths
From nature and their mothers than a
child.
There is no wisdom. Everything is
changing.
That is wise. And that there is no
wisdom.
Sleep and love and food and maybe art.
Art was murdered many years ago.
It may resuscitate, but I won't see it.
Perhaps there's love. Did Henry get a
son?
Let Henry be forgotten. Not his
queens.
Love endures when situations change.
And if the old do not outlive their
kindness,
They'll be loved more truly than the
young.

On Amazon, I have both paperbacks and Kindles. Books are usually $10 or less. Kindles are about $1. On Amazon under books, type Joseph Hart Poetry in the address bar,
